Democratic Senator Barack Obama has been elected the first black president of the United States.

It's small, shiny and ready for the web

Toshiba has left it pretty late to enter the already burgeoning netbook market, but the company has certainly come up with a stylish addition.

The NB100 houses a 8.9-inch widescreen TruBrite display (1024 x 600), up to 1GB RAM and up to 120GB hard drive storage.

There's also Wi-Fi connectivity – obviously as it is a netbook – three USB ports and it even acts as a charger for your MP3 player and the like, thanks to the Sleep-and-Charge technology.

Colour option

The netbook is available in three colours: Cosmic Black, Champagne Gold and Bright Silver, and the whole thing weighs in at just under a kilo.

Google Starts Testing AdSense For Games

To be eligible, publishers must generate a minimum of 500,000 game plays per day and receive at least 80% of their traffic from the U.S. or the U.K.
Google on Wednesday began offering a limited number of online game publishers the opportunity to earn ad revenue by participating in a beta test of its AdSense advertising program for games.

"As a beta user of AdSense for Games, you can display video ads, image ads, or text ads within your online games to earn revenue," Google ad product marketing manager Ryan Hayward said in a blog post. "You'll be able to show these ads in placements you define, such as interstitial frames before a game, after a level change, or when a game is over.

Looj Gutter Cleaning Robot

We were very skeptical that the Looj would be able to get our gutters anything close to clean. Household robotic machines, after all, are best at routine tasks like making coffee or grinding the beans to put into the coffee maker. Cleaning our gutters is anything but predictable. There aren’t only loose leaves up there but packed pine needles, twigs, rodents (both alive and not), sticks, mud, Frisbees and an old set of our car keys.

Enter the Looj, a miniature light-weight tank-like device fronted by a bristle capable of rotating at 500 RPM. The Looj’s handle doubles as the remote control. So cleaning your gutters is, theoretically, simply a matter of climbing up a ladder to your roof (the Looj comes with a belt clip so you can use both hands to climb), placing the device in the gutter, detaching the handle and using the remote control to send your Looj back and forth. This is also how it worked for us in reality — mostly.

The Looj is excellent at anything loose no matter the size. It had a harder time completely cleaning out anything that was packed down, especially mud. It did clear out some of the mud, enough to allow for the free flow of water (which is the point of cleaning the gutters, no?), but not as much as we would have doing the job by hand.

Then again, using the Looj is much faster than cleaning by hand. The ideal solution would be to use a Looj to clean your gutters more often than you would by hand, preventing anything from getting packed down to begin with. Now if only they’d back a robot to clean our windows.

he Derringer motorized bicycles have a sort of back-to-the-future thing happening. The look is 1920s retro, complete with a brown leather seat and tall white tires. But the engine at the frame’s center is pure modern technology. It’s a 4-stroke, 49cc motor capable of switching instantly between the three modes of operation: full power, engine assisted pedaling, and full manual pedaling. In full power mode the Derringer is works like a motorcycle and is capable of traveling as fast as 40 mph (65 kph) while getting up to 150 mpg. In pedal assisted mode the gas mileage can be as high as 180 mph. That makes the Derringer a way to get around that’s as fuel efficient as it is cool. $3,500
